Care Coordinator/Medical Assistant

 

Candidates for this position must meet the following requirements:

 

 

REQUIREMENTS:

¨       Graduation from accredited Medical Assistant program with a valid MA school certificate or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) or Certified Medical Assistant (CMR) or 5 (five) years clinical experience

¨       Medical office experience preferred

¨       Possess a current CPR certificate or ability to obtain within 90 (ninety) days of employment

¨       Working knowledge of basic Medical Assistant principles and practices

¨       Ability to communicate effectively with patients and all levels of personnel in a professional, courteous and effective manner with excellent customer service skills

¨       Ability to document and report findings and observations

¨       Ability to evaluate patient needs, administer prescribed medications, assist physician with examinations and treatment, prepare and apply dressings, and instruct patients in health measures and self care as instructed by the physician

¨       Strong phlebotomy skills

¨       Knowledge of medical equipment and maintenance

¨       Ability to perform EKGs

¨       Ability to provide on-site emergency treatment within scope of practice

¨       Medical office experience with referral processing for HMO preferred

¨       Ability to communicate effectively with patients and all levels of personnel in a professional, courteous and effective manner using excellent customer service skills

¨       Possess excellent communication and organizational skills with the ability to multi task, set priorities, and meet deadlines

¨       Results and goal-oriented with a philosophy for quality improvement

¨       Must be computer literate and have exceptional telephone skills

¨       Possess high job accuracy, efficiency, and dependability

¨       Knowledge of HIPAA regulations

¨       High school graduate, GED or equivalent

¨       Ability to read, write, speak and understand the English language fluently

¨       Ability to travel may be required

¨       Must have consistent, punctual and reliable attendance

¨       Bilingual preferred

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

Under direction and supervision of physician, administers immunizations, EKGs, ear washes, and other patient services. Communicates with the patient on a timely basis for all scheduling requirements.  Coordinates pre-admission testing requirements with clinic personnel and patient.  Completes all administrative functions associated with referral activities in a timely manner.  Enters all referral, hospital, outpatient, DME and other patient specialty health service authorizations into the computer system according to JSA policy and procedure.  Receives consultant reports, maintains documentation, and routes to the appropriate physician promptly.  Responsible for monitoring all referral reports not received and timely follow-up in accordance with JSA policy and procedure.   Greets patients in courteous and polite manner.  Assists in simple office and minor surgical procedures.  Assists with the education of the patient and/or family as directed by the physician.  Contacts patients as needed to give testing results instructions from the physician and scheduling of necessary visits.  Conducts all front office functions as requested.  Answers telephone inquiries and triage calls.  Maintains patient medical records in accordance with JSA policy and maintains proper assembly of medical records.  Responsible for all laboratory duties including drawing, spinning, prepping blood for testing and maintaining appropriate logs.  Maintains equipment and adequate stock levels of consumables in laboratory area.  Acts as liaison between all independent lab services and the center.  Monitors OSHA compliance of center laboratory.  Enters all test requisitions and encounters in the computer.  Performs venipuncture and administers medications as required under the direction of a physician.  Responsible for total coordination and processing of all patient referrals for specialty services.  Follows protocols for proper authorization and processing of all referrals. Assists team in educating patient/family, follows JSA standing orders/protocals, assists patients with external resources when needed. Other duties as assigned.
